The NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) football national champions are the teams that have won the NAIA Football National Championship in the United States. NAIA is a governing body that oversees intercollegiate athletics programs that are not affiliated with the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
The first NAIA Football National Championship was held in 1956, and since then, a total of 33 different schools have won the national title. The most successful team in the history of NAIA football is Carroll College, who have won a record six championships.
Other notable teams include Texas A&I (now Texas A&M-Kingsville), who won five championships between 1974 and 1982, and Pacific Lutheran, who won four straight championships between 1999 and 2002.
The current NAIA Football National Championship is a 16-team, single-elimination tournament that is held in December in Daytona Beach, Florida. The tournament features 12 automatic bids for conference champions and four at-large bids for teams that did not win their conference championship.
